OVERVIEW
Adapting the new Gucci retail concept for the Hong Kong store, the first in the Asia-Pacific market, the two-level space features the mix of heritage and modern materials – dark rosewood and marble, alongside fluted glass, polished gold, and smoked mirror and glass. Walls covered in bronze glass and bronze mirror create depth and warmth, while a circulation path is established using Gucci’s signature web strap, executed here in black marble.
Throughout, the GG logo is used in unexpected ways, such as a floating wall to display the women’s ready-to-wear collection, drawing attention to the product, while creating a branded transparency through to the rest of the space.
MASCULINE AND FEMININE
The Hong Kong Canton Road flagship employs one of the core elements of the new Gucci concept – the use of architectural design to define “rooms” for the range of collections – to striking effect. The result can be seen in the areas devoted to women’s and men’s ready-to-wear, where the designs for custom furniture, carpets, floating fixtures and innovative lighting, paired with the choice of flooring and wall coverings, create distinctively sumptuous environments.
THE STAIRCASE
One of the most salient design features is the dramatic staircase that connects the two levels. Vertical gold metal and Plexiglass rods frame the black marbled stairs, allowing light to flow through the space. The vertical lines and materials are repeated in the chandelier, which adds visual drama and a sense of height. A pixelated LED screen is positioned at the bottom of the staircase to draw attention and encourage shoppers to circulate through the space.
THE FAÇADE
In this urban setting, the façade was designed to immediately establish the brand’s presence on the street. A series of anodized aluminum, bronze, and gold profiles were arranged to create the GG logo, repeated as a pattern across the façade, visible only on a slight angle. Custom LED lighting enhanced the effect, causing a subtle illumination of the GG at night.
